New Website: “Disappeared in America” Documents the Stories of Those Targeted in Trump’s America
As Voters Increasingly Reject The Cruel Agenda, The Website Maps The Geographic Scope And Human Impact Of Trump’s Mass Deportation Agenda
As the nation marked Trump’s 100th day back in office, the Immigration Hub launched Disappeared in America: a first-of-its-kind interactive website mapping the scope and scale of Trump’s mass deportation agenda. In collaboration with Together & Free and the National Immigration Project, the site documents nearly 700 incidents of apprehensions, detentions, deportations, and disappearances—cases that include legal residents, DACA recipients, asylum seekers, and even U.S. citizens.
We are making visible what the administration would prefer to remain invisible as they move to allocate $200 billion to turbocharge this chaos. Our hope is that this project not only informs, but galvanizes leaders across the country to stand up and speak out to protect the values that define us as Americans: due process, dignity, and the belief that everyone deserves their shot at the American dream,” said Beatriz Lopez, Co-Executive Director of the Immigration Hub.
The stories featured on this site are not just data points or headlines. These true stories capture one of the darkest moments in American history in real time. No one should have the power to turn our government against the people. To disappear and deport children, mothers, fathers, and individuals in America indiscriminately or without due process threatens all Americans. The path forward is not cruelty. It’s not dismissing these stories as political bait. It’s reminding our elected leaders that fighting for our democracy means fighting for those disappeared in America.
“Since the beginning of this administration, we have seen a dragnet approach to enforcement that has targeted everyone - with no regard for safety, humane treatment, or even the legality of the arrests and detention ICE has been undertaking. From violent home raids to the detention of TPS holders and asylum seekers to rapid-fire deportations without due process to medical neglect at overcrowded detention facilities filled with people who should be out in their communities, the actions of this administration have been brutal and horrifying. It is critical to shine a light and create a record of these abuses,” said Sirine Shebaya, Executive Director of the National Immigration Project.
We hope you’ll explore the site, share these stories, and join us in demanding dignity, due process, and justice for all.
